The No. 56 AF Waltrip Ferrari will start 33rd of the 57 cars that will race in this weekend’s 51st running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Portuguese driving ace Rui Aguas qualified the No. 56 Ferrari for the AF Waltrip team. The 40-year-old driver posted a speed of 117.508 mph around the 3.56-mile, 12-turn superspeedway road circuit. The speed is the 17th quickest of the 41 GT cars that posted a qualifying lap.
“It wasn’t a bad qualifying effort for the AF Waltrip team,” said Aguas. “Longevity is the key to the 24 hour race. The team did a great job preparing the Ferrari for qualifying. It’s going to be exciting racing with Clint Bowyer and Michael Waltrip this year. They are some of the best NASCAR has to offer. I can’t thank Rob Kauffman enough for this awesome opportunity. We now need to get the car ready to race on Saturday.”
The AF Waltrip Racing Team includes drivers Augas, Bowyer, Kauffman and Waltrip. Full coverage of the race that begins at 3:30 p.m. EST Saturday can be seen on SPEED -TV and heard on MRN Radio. Timing and scoring is available at www.grandam.com.
