Ron Childers and David Reutimann

Rodney Childers begins his second season with Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) in 2010 as crew chief for David Reutimann and the No. 00 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota Camry team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS)

In his first season as crew chief for the No. 00 Aaron's Dream Machine, Childers led Reutimann and the No. 00 team to its first NSCS race win, two pole awards, five top-fives and 10 top-10s. The No. 00 finished all 36 races and led 101 laps under Childers' guidance in route to a career-best 16th-place point's finish.

On March 25, 2009 Childers outsmarted the field to secure the first NSCS race win for Reutimann and the No. 00 team in a rain-delayed and rain-shortened version of NASCAR most grueling race - the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Childers opted for the No. 00 Aaron's Dream Machine to stay out and lead laps under caution instead of coming to pit road for service as rain started to fall. As the No. 00 was leading laps, NASCAR called the competitors to pit road for the final time as the event was shortened due to inclement weather. The win was the first NSCS point race win for Childers as a crew chief.

The Mooresville, N.C. native has been involved in some form of racing since he was 12 years old whether it has been behind the wheel or atop a pit box. From 1999 to 2002, he raced in several series including the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series, Hooters Pro Cup Series and in 2000, made his first and only NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Prior to joining MWR, Childers served as a crew chief for Elliott Sadler (2008) and Scott Riggs (2006-2007) at Gillett Evernham Motorsports. Childers also served as Riggs' crew chief in 2005 with MB2 Motorsports.

Childers and Reutimann's paths crossed on the racetrack well before joining forces in the Sprint Cup Series. In Reutimann's first-ever NASCAR Slim Jim All-Pro Series race in Kingsport, Tennessee in 1999 he was in the pole position with one final competitor yet to take to the racetrack, and as luck would have it that competitor was Childers. Childers took to the track and beat Reutimann for the pole, something Reutimann may have forgiven, but has certainly not forgotten.

"I am looking forward to picking up with Rodney where we left off in 2009," Reutimann said. "The team built a lot of momentum in our first season working together. We've just got to build upon that and continue to improve. We learned a lot about how to work together last season. We won our first race together and now we're ready to take that next step forward, win more races and compete for a Sprint Cup Series Championship.
